Following the Construction of the NEW Bangz Salon & Spa

Local Artist Charlie Spademan was selected to design the front doors of the new BangZ Salon and Spa. He has created a blog to allow you to follow him through the process.

Below is an excerpt from Charlie’s blog:

“A little background on the project: In the Fall of 2007, the Montclair Arts Council announced a nationwide Call for Artists to design and implement its 5th Public Art Project in Montclair; Artwork to adorn the front doors of BangZ Salons new building on South Fullerton Avenue. I was honored to be selected as the winner of the Commission from the 50+ Artists who submitted entries. The generous budget for the project allowed me to propose creation of handrails for the building, as well as artwork for the doors. All of my work will be hand forged, by me. Though I have been working on drawings for the Project since last August, and refining my tooling (more on that in a future post), the actual construction of this artwork did not begin until the very end of February, 2008. I expect to have this artwork completed in time for opening of Bangz, in early May.”

We will be providing haircuts, blowouts, massages, and manicures throughout the day. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In Vogue’s MARCH 2008issue, BangZ featured their FIRST custom advertisementfor the world’s leading fashion publication! Inserted in over 50,000 books, the ad was designed by creative agency MARS DESIGNS and will be seen by many in the Tri-State area who subscribe to Vogue magazine. In addition, the ad was included in March issues of Lucky Magazine and Allure. Be sure to check it out or ask about it when visiting the salon!

BangZ has done it again! On Wednesday, March 5 — in association with Novo Nordisk and DIVABETIC, a community outreach organization — BangZ helped to bring diabetes education out of the clinical setting and into a fun, friendly atmosphere by participating in Divabetic—Makeover Your Diabetes. The event has toured all over the country and BangZ was invited to participate in the New York event at Gotham Hall!

After kicking off the event with a fashion show featuring women living with, at risk of, or affected by diabetes, women were invited to have one-on-one discussions with certified diabetes educators, fitness specialists, registered dieticians and image consultants so that they can personalize their care and improve their attitudes and confidence.

In addition to the education, women were invited to take advantage of complimentary salon and spa services like manicures, mini-massages and makeup application by celebrity makeup artists including reps from BangZ!
